The One Relaxing Tea Nutritionists Swear By For A Better Night’s Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is imperative–especially after a big weekend. Health experts agree that sipping on herbal tea can have a slew of health benefits; one of which is relaxation and promoting sleep.

"When it comes to naming the best bedtime teas for better sleep, the list invariably starts with chamomile tea," Dr. Febin Mary George tells us. "It has proven properties of helping you sleep for a longer time and enhancing the quality of sleep."

Chamomile has been used as a natural remedy for inflammation, anxiety and insomnia. In regards to sleep, chamomile is considered a mild tranquilizer or sleep inducer. Thanks to an antioxidant called apigenin which is contain, the tea has a calming effect. But it's not the only one that experts swear by.

"My personal favorite is lemongrass tea for its refreshing citrus flavor," Dr. George continues.

"Lemongrass, or Citronella is an aromatic herb known for its antioxidant and anxiolytic properties. A cup of lemongrass tea before bed can not only calm your nerves but also promote sound sleep,"  she explains. Sounds amazing!

"Studies conducted to assess the sedative effect of lemongrass have revealed that it can increase the sleeping time and can be quite effective in managing insomnia."

And yet another nighttime tea option comes courtesy of Rima Kleiner, MS, RD and blogger at Dish on Fish. "Chamomile, lavender and turmeric tea are all good, but if I have to choose just one I would say turmeric because this anti-inflammatory spice provides a big benefit bang... including helping to support immune, heart, brain and joint health," she explains.
