Refined Sugar
Adding sugar to your coffee may seem harmless--and, in small, irregular doses--it is. However, if you are regularly adding a pack or two of sugar to your daily coffee, it could add up to a real problem.
According to Healthline, there are many dangers besides weight gain as well: "Experts believe that sugar consumption is a major cause of obesity and many chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes."
The article continues, "Consuming too much added sugar increases heart disease risk factors such as obesity, high blood pressure and inflammation. High-sugar diets have been linked to an increased risk of dying from heart disease."
If you're hoping to eliminate sugar but hate the thought of black coffee, try stevia instead. This natural, zero-calorie sweetener is probably the healthiest way to sweeten your coffee.
"Several sweet compounds are found in stevia leaves. The main ones are stevioside and rebaudioside A. Both are hundreds of times sweeter than sugar, gram for gram," Healthline explains.
With that in mind, try finding a stevia brand you like to add to your regular coffee and save yourself from consuming too much sugar.
