As the weather warms up and more public spaces open to the public, you may be wondering about the risks involved in going outside. Forgetting A Mask

When going outside, you might think you can skip the mask, but you really shouldn't. According to the New York Times, when it comes to questions around staying safe outdoors, "Experts have a simple answer: Practice social distancing and wear a mask when that is not possible."

With that in mind, although you might not need to wear a mask the entire time you are outside, especially in less crowded places, you should always bring one just in case.

There are other measures you can take to lower your risk as well--like keeping moving.

According to the article, Shan Soe-Lin, a lecturer at the Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs says, “The risk is lower outdoors, but it’s not zero, and I think the risk is higher if you have two people who are stationary next to each other for a long time, like on a beach blanket, rather than people who are walking and passing each other."

It's also important to keep the number of people low. The safest route is to keep your outdoor gatherings restricted to people in your household.

However, according to the article, there are still precautions you can take if you do meet friends. "If you decide to meet friends, you’re increasing your risk, but you can take precautions. It’s important to keep gatherings small. Don’t share food, utensils or beverages; keep your hands clean; and keep at least six feet from people who don’t live in your home," the article explains.

With these tips in mind, there are ways to stay safe and keep yourself healthy while still getting outside to enjoy the warmer weather.
