The One Thing You Should Never Order At Wawa, According To An Employee

If you live on the East Coast, chances are you know and love Wawa. The gas station/convenience store is a fan favorite. Customers particularly love the chain's coffee and hoagies. However, we found some insider knowledge about Wawa that you'll want to know before you stop at the store during your next road trip.

A former Wawa manger told Reddit, "The food quality was okay. The meat in the sandwiches are pre-packaged, but all weighted deli meat is sliced. Food is super up to code. They don't allow any nasty shit to go down in food prep. It's the cleanest place I have ever worked. All the hot food comes frozen and we would put it in the rethermalizer for an hour to heat to temp. Our rolls were delivered fresh daily, never frozen (unless your store orders extra and freezes them for emergencies)." The food might not be fresh, but at least it's sanitary!

Another Wawa employee told Reddit, "At my store we bake our hot dogs in the oven. We no longer use a 'roller grill'. They last for 3 hours in the 'hot box' type warmer case until they are spoiled out." They also commented, "All the hot food is pretty yucky after its coded time." Moral of the story: Ask how long the food has been out before you eat it.

If you are looking for a healthy food option from Wawa, Eat This, Not That, suggests the Chicken and Steak Shorti Hoagie with Roasted Peppers and Spinach. This 6-inch hoagie is a great snack and "has the best balance of calories, fats, sodium and protein, along with fat-burning peppers and spinach to boot."
