This time last year, the world celebrated the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, with one particular iconic moment happening when she joined the now King Charles and Queen Camilla, her grandson Prince William, granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton, and great-grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

It was a moment that will go down in history, not just for Prince Louis’ adorable facial expressions, but also because it turned out to be the last time the Queen appeared on the balcony before her death. And we guess we have King Charles to thank for that moment! According to reports, he really insisted that his mother make that appearance, as she originally wanted to give it a miss due to not feeling great in the lead up, which could have been partly caused by her ongoing mobility issues.

King Charles Reportedly Insisted The Queen Make Her Final Balcony Appearance

"The Queen only decided that she would go to London about three hours before the balcony appearance," an insider reportedly told the Daily Mail, revealing the now King Charles gave her what The Mirror described as an "urgent call" to try and persuade her to make the appearance.

"She was not feeling brilliant but [Charles] had called her and told her she really ought to come if she could," they continued, adding, "He told her there were so many people desperate to see her and he convinced her to come."

The Queen Was Reportedly 'Humbled' By The Crowds

The Queen, who was dressed in a stunning bold green ensemble with a matching green hat, must have been glad that her son convinced her to make the appearance, as she reportedly said that she was "humbled and deeply touched" that so many people lined The Mall to mark her 70-year reign. She looked visibly overcome with emotion as she stood on the balcony, which makes us wonder if she herself knew that it would be her last time.
