“If someone tries to power off an iPhone X using the’ iPhone 8 or earlier’ method, Siri will start listening for a command,” technologist Bree Bengle with global tech services company Asurion explains to SheFinds.
“The same thing will happen if someone tries to use the ‘iPad with a home button’ steps to turn off an iPad with Face ID.”
This might seem obvious, but if you’re gifting a new iPhone X to a family member whose tech capabilities are on the lighter side (hey, grandma!) this is definitely worth explaining for them.
Bengle provided step by step instructions for how to power your iPhone off, depending on the model:
The Right Way To Power Off Your Devices:

Press and hold the side button and either volume buttons until the power off slider appears on screen
Drag the slider to the right
The device will power off
