If you are struggling with hair loss, taking a closer look at the products you use is important. Unfortunately, many haircare brands contain ingredients that can be harmful to the scalp and hair–leading to irritation and even hair loss.
With that in mind, keep reading for the scary reason your hair keeps thinning!
Sodium Chloride
Sodium chloride can lead to scalp irritation and hair loss.
Dr. Dorin, Medical Director of True and Dorin Medical Group, told StyleCaster, "Sodium Chloride may also be the cause of dry and itchy scalp in addition to hair loss."
Sodium chloride acts as a thickener in shampoos and conditioners.
According to US National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine, "Sodium chloride is used as a thickener in shampoos and conditioners containing sodium lauryl sulfate."
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is another dangerous ingredient in hair products. It can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it damaged, brittle, and more susceptible to breakage.
With that in mind, avoiding any hair products containing sodium chloride and SLS is a good way to protect your scalp from irritation and save your hair from damage.
