First, it's important to avoid Wendy's Homestyle Avocado BLT Chicken Sandwich. This sandwich contains a whopping 740 calories. Plus, it has 41 grams of fat and 1,560 milligrams of sodium.
These high numbers are partly due to the crispy breaded chicken. Amy Gorin, MS, RDN, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition, explains to Eat This, Not That!, "This sandwich is higher in calories and fat than many of the other sandwich options," Gorin tells us. "This is because the chicken is breaded. And while avocado is a healthy fat, you're getting multiple fat sources, including bacon and cheese."
It's also a good idea to stay away from Wendy's Asiago Ranch Chicken Club Homestyle, which has similarly high numbers in terms of calories, fat, and sodium.
Both of these sandwiches are not labeled "crispy" (aka fried), so they can be misleading. If you do want a more health-conscious grilled chicken sandwich, make sure to clarify that and they can swap it out.
With that in mind, if you are craving chicken but want to stick to healthier options, look out for Wendy's Grilled Chicken Wrap and their Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
These options are much lower in calories (around 300 to 380) and have a decent amount of protein, meaning they'll be able to keep you satisfied without prompting more salty cravings.
As with anything, you can indulge occasionally and go for the crispier chicken sandwich options, but having healthy substitutes in the back of your mind is always a good idea. Plus, if you are also ordering a side of fries or a soda, you might want to make sure you're getting some healthier ingredients as well.
