It’s no secret that starting your day on the right foot during your weight loss journey is best done at breakfast.

While choosing the healthiest foods to eat during a busy morning is key for successful weight loss, your a.m. drink choices also play a large role in your diet.

It’s no surprise that drinking plenty of water is essential for every healthy diet. Other drinks such as smoothies are also a great way to sneak in a ton of healthy fruits and vegetables first thing in the morning. However, let’s turn our attention to one of the most popular breakfast drinks: coffee.

According to Healthline, coffee actually has a lot of incredible health benefits. One of those benefits is that coffee can help you burn fat since the caffeine found in coffee boosts your metabolic rate. How amazing is that?!

Although coffee itself is a relatively healthy drink, coffee extras like sugars and creamers can throw all of coffee’s nutritional benefits out the window. In fact, you really shouldn’t add sugary creamers to coffee because it can lead to unwanted weight gain.

In an interview with Byrdie, registered dietitian Kristen Carli easily breaks down how to approach coffee creamer the next time you make a hot cup of joe.

“Ask yourself: How much creamer do you put in per cup? How many cups do you drink each morning? Depending on the type of creamer and how much you put in your coffee each morning, you can very easily hit your limit on added sugars per day,” Carli explains. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

Simply put, it’s best and healthiest to stick to a simple cup of black coffee. However, a splash of milk is fine when it’s used in moderation. Remember to stray away from sugary creamers for the sake of your waistline.
