Starting your morning with a healthy breakfast is an important way to keep your metabolism running throughout the day. Unfortunately, many traditional breakfast foods–from bagels to cereals–can slow your metabolism down.

Cereal

Although you may think of cereal as a healthy, simple breakfast option, it's a good idea to double check the ingredients and avoid sugary cereals.

According to Eat This, Not That!, "Cereals that fall into this category are made with flour, oil, and sugar — the same ingredients we use to make baked goods."

Many popular cereal options are loaded with sugar and refined carbs, which can lead to weight gain.

Healthline explains, "Starting the day with a high-sugar breakfast cereal will spike your blood sugar and insulin levels. A few hours later, your blood sugar may crash, and your body will crave another high-carb meal or snack — potentially creating a vicious cycle of overeating."

Many of these cereals are also low in fiber, making them bad for weight loss.

Fiber is super important for your metabolism. Healthline explains, "Fiber can reduce appetite by slowing the movement of food through the gut."

With that in mind, staying away from high-sugar cereals is a good way to keep your metabolism running all day long.
