Thinning hair — it happens to the best of us as we get older. Frustrating, we know, but you can take at least some comfort in the fact that you’re not alone in this issue. Thinning hair and hair loss can stem from a variety of issues, from environmental factors like stress and product damage to genetics and age.

While the problem may be naturally occuring, that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. Michelle Blaisure, Certified Trichologist and Bosley Professional Expert, shared her tips on preventing thinning hair so you can spend less time worrying and more time just enjoying life–with a full head of hair.

For men and women, the causes differ slightly. While male hair loss is driven by genetics first and age second, for women it’s a bit more complicated.

“While genetics known as female pattern baldness affects about 20% of women with hair loss primarily in the crown and bang area, the majority experience hair loss due to stress and ageing along with changes diet hormonal balance, medications and health,” explains Blaisure.

Being proactive and taking a thinning hair supplement before the issue persists is one way to slow down the inevitable, but you should also be incorporating products, like shampoos and conditioners, designed to target thin hair and promote regrowth.

“While a good conditioner can help balance the scalp and maintain moisture, addressing hair loss requires a multi-therapy approach like Bosley Professional Hair Regrowth Treatment Strength kits,” recommends Blaisure. These hair regrowth kids contain a nourishing shampoo, volumizing conditioner, and leave-in treatment.

In addition to using hair regrowth products, try making the necessary lifestyle changes needed to stop the issue in its tracks.

“Reducing stress is the first thing to look at,” advises Blaisure on the best hair care practices. She also recommends getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night and eating a healthy, whole foods diet full of protein and good fats.
