Your phone or computer will start acting strangely if your iCloud has been hacked. “If you are receiving strange emails, text messages, or phone calls from unknown numbers, this may be a sign that your iCloud has been hacked,” said Tech Expert James Calderon from Alrigh. “Another sign is if you are unable to log into your iCloud account, or if you see strange activity on your iCloud account that you do not recognize.”
Additionally, any messages in your email that you made changes in your account details like password, and you didn’t make those changes, is a sure sign that you’ve been hacked, cautions Matthew Paxton, founder of Hypernia.
What To Do If Your iCloud Has Been Hacked
Responding swiftly and appropriately is key when you’ve been the victim of a hacking.
“Try to sign in to your iCloud account,” Paxton said. “If signing in doesn’t work, check if you can reset your password or try to unlock your iCloud account using security questions. Once you manage to sign in, change your password immediately.”
But don’t just change your password to any old password — make sure your new password is complex. “Choose a strong, unique password for your iCloud account and make sure to change it regularly,” Calderon said. “Avoid using easily guessed words or phrases, and consider using a password manager to help you keep track of complex passwords.”
Finally: a very important step that (along with having a stronger password) can prevent future hacking: enable two-factor authentication for your iCloud account. “This will require you to enter a code sent to your phone or another device in order to access your account, making it more difficult for hackers to gain access,” Calderon said.
Getting hacked can be scary, but knowing how to respond can make a huge difference in your outcomes.
