Rumors of divorce first started with West himself, who tweeted, "I've been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for 'prison reform.'"
He also implied that the horror film Get Out was based on his life, specifically his relationship to Kardashian's family. The rapper also criticized his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, in the series of tweets.
All of these tweets have all since been deleted.
As speculation around Kanye's mental state began, Kim made a rare public statement about her husband's bipolar disorder, asking for compassion from others.
On her Instagram stories, the reality star wrote, "As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand."
She continued, "... I am very protective of our children and Kanye's right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because off the stigma and misconceptions about mental health ... Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions."
Although Kim's statement was nothing but supportive, it looks like this might be the end of the road for their marriage, specifically since Kanye publicly spoke about almost aborting the couple's first daughter, North.
However, a source told People that this is not the first sign of trouble for Kim and Kanye. Apparently, "divorce had been in the process for several weeks."
Another insider confirmed the news to the outlet, explaining, "There has been enough communication, both in the past few days and in the weeks prior, to establish that both sides feel the marriage is over."
West has since apologized for taking the private matter to Twitter. He issued a public apology, writing, ""I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter. I did not cover her like she has covered me. To Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me."
