Fortunately, according to this latest update, Tiger is “awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's department has also been keeping the media in the loop when it comes to Tiger's condition.
Carlos Gonzalez, an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department deputy, was first to report to the scene. According to him, "It’s very fortunate that Mr. Woods was able to come out of this alive."
He told NBC’s "Today" that Woods did not seem to understand the seriousness of his injuries at first. "I don’t think he was aware of how gravely he was injured at the time. It could be a mixture of adrenaline, it could’ve been shock," he explained.
Gonzalez added that Tiger wearing his seatbelt likely played a critical role in saving his life. He explained, "The nature of his vehicle, the fact that he was wearing his seat belt, I would say that it greatly increased the likelihood that it saved his life."
Unfortunately, the location of the accident is apparently a common one.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva told reporters "that stretch of road has had quite a few accidents over the years."
He continued, "From January of last year to Tiger Woods' incident, there's a total of 13 accidents, four of them with injuries."
