Tiger Woods is inarguably one of the most well-known golfers of his time, but following a horrific crash back in February, the 45-year-old athlete has announced that he has been forced to step back from his full-time career for good. Just 9 months after Woods injured his right leg in the crash, he gave a tell-all interview to Golf Digest, revealing his plans for the future of his golf game.

“I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day, never full time, ever again, but pick and choose, just like Mr. (Ben) Hogan did,” he said, striking down hope of regaining the momentum that his career had maintained over the years. “Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that. You practice around that, and you gear yourself up for that. And you play. I think that’s how I’m going to have to play it from now on,” he added.
Just as fans are disappointed by the revelation, so too is Woods. “It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s my reality. And I understand it, and I accept it,” he told the magazine. Back in February, Woods was in a significant car crash in Los Angeles which caused devastating damage to the golfer’s leg, creating difficulty walking even after rehab.

“I have so far to go … I’m not even at the halfway point. I have so much more muscle development and nerve development that I have to do in my leg. At the same time, as you know, I’ve had five back operations,“ Woods said. “So I’m having to deal with that. So as the leg gets stronger, sometimes the back may act up … It’s a tough road.“
The crash was said to be caused by Woods’ speed on the road, with a report from the Sheriff’s department revealing, “Had [Woods] applied his brakes to reduce his speed or steered to correct the direction of travel, he would not have collided with the center median and the collision would not have occurred.“ Fortunately, no other cars were involved in the accident.
