Tiger Woods just opened up about his recovery following a car crash he experienced earlier this year. In February, the golfer endured a single-vehicle rollover car accident as his car hit the center divide of the road and ultimately cut through a tree and landed on the side of the road.

Now, the athlete has revealed just how difficult his recovery from this accident has been, detailing his experiences though surgery and rehabilitation.

According to the orthopedic trauma specialists who treated Woods at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center following the crash, Woods"suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity.”

In a statement, Dr. Anish Mahajan explained that "Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins. Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling."

Now, speaking to Golf Digest, Woods has shared just how difficult recovering from his extensive injuries has been.

"This has been an entirely different animal,'' he told the publication. "I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.''

Woods has been undergoing rehabilitation to strengthen his right leg. He returned to South Florida in mid-March to continue his rehab from home, though Golf Digest reports that it is unclear whether the professional golfer will require additional procedures on his leg.

Golf Digest asked Woods if he would be able to play golf again, and Woods had no comment to share. Instead he reported, “My physical therapy has been keeping me busy. I do my routines every day and am focused on my No. 1 goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time.”
