Hill, 57, and his other two daughters also urged him to take action, prompting him to swiftly adjust his diet and exercise plan, which resulted in a 40-pound weight loss. In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, McGraw shared that his fellow country star wife Hill has "always been my rock."
He gushed: "She's my rock in everything that I do. I don't think I could stand up straight without leaning on her in everything that I do."
Despite the "This Kiss" artist's unwavering support, McGraw admitted that resisting temptation was challenging throughout his journey to sobriety. He has remained alcohol-free since 2008. v=
"It is not a linear path," he explained. McGraw went on: "There's setbacks… there's times you move forward and do great, and there's times you set back. And that'll probably be a process throughout the rest of my life and something that I have to be diligent about … really continue to work at."
Recently, McGraw shared with Entertainment Tonight that his exercise routine now features walking, as past injuries have made running impossible for him. “I can’t run anymore because I’ve broken my foot so many times,” he said.
This, the "Just to See You Smile" crooner noted, is why he begins each day with an "hour walk." In 2020, McGraw demonstrated his commitment to health by sharing a picture of himself on a treadmill, keeping up with the news.
He had previously discussed his fitness journey during a 2018 interview with Men's Journal. Despite admitting that there was a period when he neglected "fitness," he mentioned that he became dedicated to his exercise routine "about seven or eight years ago."
He shared: "When I really got serious about fitness, I thought it would be a cool world to be in." The father of three continued: "In my early 40s, when I really started taking it seriously, I started running a lot. That’s the first thing I started doing, and I found that made a big difference for me."
"It just started my day out better. I just realized how much it raised the bar on everything that I did." He added: "It raised the bar on my career. It raised the bar on my relationships with my friends. It just made me feel better, gave me a better mental outlook on everything that I was doing."
However, regarding food, McGraw mentioned he delights in sneaking a bowl of Cocoa Puffs late at night and relishes a cheat day meal when his wife, Hill, cooks some of his home-cooked favorites like pork chops and gravy.
