Savannah Guthrie, 51, has tested positive for COVID-19. On Tuesday, February 28, the Today anchor, who attended her first runway show during New York Fashion Week the other day, began the show bright and early at 7 a.m. However, within an hour, Savannah’s co-anchors, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, and Carson Daly, announced that she would not be appearing for the rest of the broadcast because she had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Savannah Guthrie Tested Positive For COVID-19 While Filimg The ‘Today’ Show
It was just like any other day for Savannah when she began hosting the NBC morning show at 7 a.m. But, after she didn’t return after a commercial break around 7:30 a.m., she quickly sparked concern among viewers. 3rd Hour co-host Sheinelle Jones then shared a health update about Savannah right before 9 a.m. ET.
“It has been an interesting morning for us,” Jones said. “As we said, Savannah left early, she wasn’t feeling great. She took a COVID test, it came back positive. So of course as soon as we found out, she rushed home to rest up. So Savannah, we love you,” Jones added as she blew a kiss to the camera. “Wishing you a speeding recovery.”
Trying to keep it light, Roker playfully scooted outside of the camera frame as Daily asked, “Al, where you going? Where [are] you headed?” Roker kidded, “Sheinelle was sitting between me and Savannah.”

This is the third time that Savannah has tested positive for COVID-19. The anchor tested positive in May 2022, and before that, Savannah tested positive in January 2022. Thankfully, she is fully vaccinated and has received the booster.
Savannah did not share any updates on social media because she gave up Instagram for Lent. With any luck, we’ll hear from the anchor soon. The Today hosts also did not elaborate on when she will return or who will take her place while she is gone. When Savannah tested positive in May 2022, she was off the air for five days.

Hoda Kotb Remains Off Air For Unknown Reasons
News of Savannah leaving early also comes after her co-anchor, Hoda Kotb, 58, has been absent from both Today and Today with Hoda and Jenna for more than a week. The anchor’s last appearance was during a pre-taped Presidents’ Day episode and her last live show was on Friday, Feb. 17. Neither Today nor Hoda has yet to address her absence. Savannah’s recent positive COVID-19 test has resulted in the show now missing both of its main anchors!

Fans have been extremely worried regarding Hoda’s unusually long time off—especially since she has been posting several inspirational quotes via Instagram over the last week. After six cryptic Instagram posts, fans filled her Instagram comments with concern. “Today show just isn’t the same without you! I hope you’re ok, but boy if they are letting you go.. people are going to drop like flys watching Today. We Love Hoda!” one fan wrote while another commented, “Missing you on Hoda&Jenna.” Another fan commented, “Ok. Seriously…what is going on with you? I know you have a right to privacy, but your truest fans have noticed your absence and these posts…worried about you,” and a fourth person chimed in with, “Thanks for the encouraging words. Hope you’re doing great. I missed you this past week so much. It’s not the same without you.” Hopefully, both Hoda and Savannah can return to the Today show soon!
