Late last month, Suri Cruise joined everyone else in her high school clsas dressed in a cap and gown bearing her school’s colors, smiling from ear to ear. Her mother, Katie Holmes, had a similar expression on her face as she watched, proudly. Her father, Tom Cruise? Nowhere to be seen. The 62-year-old continued played the part of deadbeat father and didn’t even show up to his daughter’s high school graduation, essentially confirming the reports that he wants nothing to do with Suri. Keep reading for more details.
Tom Cruise Won't See His Daughter Suri
While it may seem like a shock to some fans that a father wouldn't put aside whatever differences there might be with his daughter or ex-wife to see his child graduate high school, insiders are not surprised at all. "The truth is, for the last 11 years, Tom has chosen not to see Suri." The pair haven't been photographed together since April 2013, not even a year after Tom and his ex-wife Katie Holmes got a divorce. An insider reports that they haven't seen one another since September 2013.
And what was Tom doing instead of watching his daughter's greatest achievement yet? He was at Taylor Swift's Era's Tour in London. "He was trading friendship bracelets with superfans and dancing to 'Shake It Off' in a crowd filled with young ladies who were around his daughter's age," a source reported. "This after skipping Suri's graduation — it's like he's living a double life."
Suri Cruise Stops Using Her Dad's Last Name
Now that Suri is 18 years old and of legal age, she has stopped using the last name "Cruise" and has started using the last name "Noelle." Suri performed in her high school's adaptation of the Broadway show "Head Over Heels" recently, and notably listed her name on the program as "Suri Noelle."
Noelle doesn't come out of nowhere, though. Suri is the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. The pair married in 2006 but split in 2012, with Holmes getting full custody of their daughter. Though as of now, Suri's legal last name is Cruise, she's reportedly going by Katie Noelle, paying homage to her mother, whose middle name is Noelle.
The 18-year-old hasn't given any reason as to why she's made this change, but many fans are wagering guesses. While some suggest that perhaps it's a way to make her own name for herself rather than being tied to her dad, most are certain it's because she wants nothing to do with the Mission Impossible actor.
