If there’s one thing Tom Cruise is good at—other than acting, that is—it’s holding a grudge. The three-time Golden Globe winner is reportedly “still angry” with Victoria and David Beckham years after their falling out in 2014, a source close to the actor says. The Mission Impossible star apparently feels like the Beckhams took advantage of him after he welcomed them to L.A. back when the soccer star joined the L.A. Galaxy team in 2007.
However, an insider on the Beckhams’ side claims the power couple took a step back from their friendship when Tom started “pressuring” them to join the Church of Scientology. It looks like this years-old feud isn’t coming to an end anytime soon.
Why is Tom Cruise angry with the Beckhams?
When the documentary stars moved to the U.S. in 2007, it was Tom Cruise and his then-wife Katie Holmes who showed them the ropes of Hollywood living. “Tom did everything for them when they first moved to L.A. He practically gave them the keys to the city,” the source said. “He threw them a party to meet everyone important, and the moment they were established they chucked him!”
The stars were last spotted together in 2014, and with all the publicity over the new Beckham docuseries on Netflix, fans were wondering if they would see the Top Gun star at any events, hoping the famous friends had put their feud behind them. But, Cruise is reportedly “still angry and has no intentions of being friends again. David and Victoria tested the waters a while ago, but Tom ignored them—so it makes sense they haven’t invited him to anything. Tom clearly thinks they should’ve tried harder.”
Why did the Beckhams ditch Tom Cruise?
While Tom Cruise does seemingly have a right to be upset, the Beckhams had their reasons for taking a step back from the relationship. A source close to the Beckhams reports that the “issue was the pressure to join Scientology. [Tom] wouldn’t take no for an answer,” so Posh Spice and the former Manchester United star felt that they “had no choice but to pull away.”
The Church of Scientology, which many celebrities like John Travolta have joined, is a very controversial religious movement that many call a cult because of its extreme teachings and practices. It is understandable that the Beckhams were scared off by this, but, a source says, “it’s clear Tom was hurt by the rejection.”
It doesn’t look like the Beckhams and the four-time Academy award nominee will be making up any time soon. Life's too short for long-time grudges, Tom!
