While Tom Cruise has remained relatively close with his two older kids, Connor, 29, and Isabella, 31, that is decidedly not the case with his 18-year-old daughter, Suri. Reports of estrangement have been swirling for years at this point, and now that Suri’s reached legal age, it seems as if she’s putting a nail in the coffin by dropping her last name. Keep reading for more details.
Suri Cruise Changes Her Name
Suri performed in her high school's adaptation of the Broadway show "Head Over Heels" recently, and notably listed her name on the program as "Suri Noelle," rather than her legal name, "Suri Cruise."
Noelle doesn't come out of nowhere, though. Suri is the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. The pair married in 2006 but split in 2012, with Holmes getting full custody of their daughter. Though as of now, Suri's legal last name is Cruise, she's reportedly going by Katie Noelle, paying homage to her mother, whose middle name is Noelle.
The 18-year-old hasn't given any reason as to why she's made this change, but many fans are wagering guesses. While some suggest that perhaps it's a way to make her own name for herself rather than being tied to her dad, most are certain it's because she wants nothing to do with the Mission Impossible actor.
This isn't a stretch by any means; Suri reportedly hasn't seen her father since Christmas 2013, and in 2023, a source close to the issue said that Tom "has no part" in his child's life whatsoever.
Fans Slam Tom Cruise As A 'Deadbeat' Dad
On a social media post announcing Suri's stage name, fans began sharing their thoughts on the matter in the comment section. "It is most likely too painful for her to keep it," one person said about the Cruise last name. "His name is a constant reminder of his abandonment."
"Sounds like she's just trying to be taken seriously and not look like she's getting hired because of her dad," another suggested.
"There's no reason for her to have a deadbeat's name..." said a third user.
"Yeah I wouldn't want to be affiliated with him either," agreed another person.
"It's her business," another fan wrote. "She can do whatever she wants!"
"Good for her!" a final fan said. "Love that she's taking a stand."
