While hosting SNL from his kitchen, Hanks joked about his experience in his opening monologue:"I have been the celebrity canary in the coal mine for the coronavirus. And ever since being diagnosed, I have been more like America's dad than every before, since no one wants to be around me very long and I make people uncomfortable."
Rita Wilson also talked about their experience with COVID-19. The actress told Gayle King on CBS This Morning how her symptoms differed from her husband's, explaining that she was "very tired, extremely achy, uncomfortable, didn't want to be touched."
She also experienced chills, a loss of taste and smell, and a high fever, which reached 102 degrees by day nine.
Hanks, on the other hand, did not have as high of a fever and never lost his sense of taste and smell.
The actress also opened up about being treated with Chloroquine, usually used to treat malaria. However, she cautioned against the severe side effects, including nausea, vertigo, and weak muscles.
She continued, "We have to be very considerate about this drug. We don't know if it's safe in this case."
