Over the past decade, Tom Segura has impressively shed 50 pounds since his debut Netflix special, Completely Normal, premiered in 2014.
The special, which was recorded a year prior to its release, featured the comedian, now 45, disclosing that medical professionals had informed him of his excessive weight and elevated muscle enzyme levels, suggesting muscle damage from a highly inactive lifestyle.
We’ve gathered photos documenting Segura’s remarkable 50-pound weight loss over the years and detailed his journey in his own words.
In 2023, Segura dished to Muscle & Fitness: “I was 255 pounds. In the special, I say I was 245 pounds, but I’m lying.” The host of Your Mom’s House podcast married Christina Pazsitzky in 2008. They celebrated the arrival of their son, Ellis, in 2016, followed by their second son, Julian, in 2018. Segura told GQ in 2023 that he really “prioritized” his health after his eldest child was born.
He explained: “It took a little while, but I started to tour and I would go do cardio and I would feel better if I did the elliptical or something.” Segura added: “What I realized was that between 2017 and 2019, I’d gained like 20 pounds again. I didn’t feel like I was living that mindlessly — I didn’t think I was being reckless — but it was really because I was just not dialing-in on details.”
The Two Bears One Cave podcaster continued: “So this time when I saw what tour was coming up and how heavy and daunting the whole schedule was, I just needed to get through it physically in a healthy way.” Segura also told the outlet that he did “everything wrong you can do” when it came to his health, like a poor diet and irregular sleep schedule.
He shared: “When I was starting as a club act, I would fly in and stay up in the hotel or the comedy condo until 4 a.m. and wake up at like noon and then eat some bullsh—t like fries and a burger, and then try to nap and then go to the club and eat like sh—ty mozzarella sticks or something. You’re in this cycle of doing that, and of course I was gaining weight and I was feeling worse physically and mentally.”
