Hair care products are essential for maintaining healthy, shiny locks, but not all products have the best ingredients for your hair. Some of them contain harmful ingredients that can damage hair over time, causing breakage, dryness, and scalp irritation.

Even more concerning, some research has linked certain chemicals in hair products to severe health risks, including cancer.

Sydney, a lifestyle content creator and breast cancer survivor, recently shared a list of several different hair care products you should avoid because they are damaging to hair health and have high amounts of toxic ingredients. Read on to get all her insights.

1. Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Conditioner

While the 100% recycled plastic label and no parabens or phthalates could encourage you to purchase this product, Sydney says you should think twice.

She notes that this product is a “potential endocrine disruptor,” and repeated exposure can lead to “toxic blood, liver, and fertility” issues.

2. Living Proof Dry Hair Shampoo

Dry shampoo can be a lifesaver on busy days when washing and styling your hair isn't an option. However, Sydney cautions against overusing this product.

She notes that it could be a “potential endocrine disruptor” and rates the product 30/100 according to the Yuka app.

3. Olaplex Bond Maintenance Shampoo

Olaplex may be a popular brand that can do wonders for hair care, but Sydney cautions against their Bond Maintenance shampoo.

“High amounts [are] toxic to blood, liver, and fertility,” she highlights.

Another point she makes is that this shampoo "contains chemicals that are highly toxic to the environment.”

Other downsides include skin irritation if you have eczema or even psoriasis.

4. Not Your Mother’s Bond Curl Talk Shampoo

Also an “endocrine disruptor,” Sydney says this product contains “residue from ethylene oxide,” which is a “neurotoxin and cancer-causing” ingredient. Yikes!

The product is rated 41/100 according to the Yuka app.

5. Purezer Biotin Strengthening Conditioner

Although silicone can protect the hair from humidity, she labels this as an “endocrine disruptor" as well.

Not only that, Sydney says these chemical traces “can be toxic to reproduction.”
