This article has been updated since its initial May 14, 2023 publish date to include more Trader Joe’s recalled items.

Trader Joe‘s is beloved by American shoppers for many reasons, from its low prices to its delicious and diverse variety of food, drink and cosmetic products.

We rounded up three notable and recent recalled items from the grocery store for customers to be aware of this spring:

1. Trader Joe’s Genova Pesto

The grocery chain’s Genova Pesto sauce is currently being recalled as it may contain undeclared milk and walnuts, which could be concerning for anyone with allergies. As Taste of Home reports, many of these packages are mislabeled. TJ’s Genova Pesto products are affected by the recall at store locations in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Washington.

The impacted product has “UPC 0015 7353” on the side label, the outlet notes, and a “Use By date of 05/27/2023” with a time stamp between “06:28 – 07:07” printed on the bottom of the tub. These were distributed to Trader Joe’s stores between April 28th and April 30, 2023.

Bakkavor USA makes the product and issued a voluntary recall of the pesto, as it was discovered that the Genova Pesto had been “mistakenly packaged” into tubs marked “Hummus Dip” at some stores. These tubs, the publication stresses, do not contain an allergen declaration of milk or walnuts, “which are both found in the Genova Pesto.”

2. Organic Tropical Fruit Blend

In March of this year, an outbreak of Hepatitis A caused major grocery stores across the US (including Trader Joe’s) to recall frozen fruit. As noted on the official TJ’s website, the grocer was recently alerted by their supplier of “Trader Joe’s Organic Tropical Fruit Blend (SKU# 51191)” that products with the best by dates of “04/25/24, 05/12/24, 05/23/24, 05/30/24, and 06/07/24” may have the potential to be “contaminated with Hepatitis A.”

This frozen blend contains pineapple, bananas, strawberries and mango and has been pulled from stores nationwide. The chain also wrote in their March announcement, “No illnesses have been reported to date, and all potentially affected product has been removed from sale and destroyed.” Along with this Trader Joe’s product, Scenic Fruit Company (the supplier) has recalled its frozen organic strawberries from Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafoods and PCC Markets.

3.Wine Country White Chicken Salad with Cranberries & Pecans

Trader Joe’s also recently pulled its Wine Country White Chicken Salad with Cranberries & Pecans product from stores in March as some packages may “contain undeclared cashews,” as noted by the grocer’s announcement earlier this year. The chain urges customers to look out for products with the following number, “SKU# 91182,” and to remember that products with the code “Best by 03/12/23” might have nuts in them, which can be dangerous and detrimental for anyone with related allergies.

These affected salads, as TJ’s points out, were only sold in their Idaho, Oregon and Washington stores. The chain added on their site, “No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date, and all potentially affected product has been removed from sale.” Good to know!

4. Instant Cold Brew

If you’ve been wondering why the Trader Joe’s-branded Instant Cold Brew Coffee products have vanished from your local store, according to the company, these were recalled due to “potential glass inside the containers.” Customers are being asked to throw this item away if they have it, or to return it at their location for a full refund.

The affected products have 2024 expirations dates for June 13th, November 26th or December 30th with the SKU# 67436. As Food Safety News reports, “there is concern that consumers may have this product in their homes because of its long shelf life.”
