Trader Joe's Fans Disheartened With New S'mores Ice Cream Flavor On Reddit
Last month, one user in the r/traderjoes subreddit made a post titled: "S’mores ice cream disappointment." They added a photo of the ice cream advertised compared to the real thing. They captioned the pic: "Advertised vs actual."
While the photo of the dessert on its packaging seemed to show chocolate chips and other colors and textures, the opened ice cream was completely smooth (and less "tasty looking," as one commenter pointed out!)
Trader Joe's fans then began sharing their own similar experiences and beliefs regarding the treat. "I just got it and it had a foul taste (the pieces of chocolate somehow were bad? Didn’t even know that could happen)," one wrote. The user added: "The ice cream was somewhat soft too.. not sure what the issue is, maybe I got a bad batch."
Someone else replied: "so disappointing. like why are there no graham cracker pieces in it?! that would've made it a little better." Another concurred, writing: "I read they couldn't put graham crackers through it because they got too soggy. Shame, a bit of crunch is always nice. Why didn't they enrobe them in chocolate?"
Some however, disagreed, as one customer wrote: "I thought it was quite good. Probably 7/10…. I would have given it an 8 if there were more marshmallows." One other shared a similar sentiment when it came to the new TJ's item, adding: "i think it was amazing! the pictures never match."
According to Trader Joe’s vice president of marketing Matt Sloan, "It’s not so much a deconstructed s’more as it is a mixed up ice cream that is absolutely s’mores-like in its flavors."
In addition, Tara Miller, another vice president of marketing, mentioned that when Trader Joe's tested out chunks of graham crackers when creating the ice cream, they got "so soggy" that "you didn’t get that flavor." (We'll have to try it for ourselves!)
