Trader Joe’s Shoppers Are Calling These ‘Hold The Cone’ Tip Treats ‘Disappointing’: ‘Dry’ And ‘Flavorless’
March 16, 2024 by Faith Geiger
Trader Joe’s is home to some of the tastiest, most inventive foods around, from quirky seasonings to a wide range of delicious ice cream flavors. We’re always excited when they roll out brand-new, unique snacks—but while they normally hit the nail on the head, not every new product can be a slam dunk.
Sometimes, a TJ’s product misses the mark. It seems like this may be the case with their new Hold the Cone chocolate-filled waffle cone tips, which users in the Trader Joe’s subreddit are disappointed by. Find more details on the product—including what shoppers are saying about it—below.
Many people think that the chocolate-filled tip of a Drumstick ice cream cone is the best part. If you’re one of those people, you may be excited by the idea of this new chocolate Trader Joe’s snack, which takes the classic TJ’s mini ice cream cones (otherwise known as “Hold the Cone”) and makes them even minier. In fact, this sweet treat takes ice cream out of the equation all together, and much of the cone too, leaving only the tips.
While this bite-sized snack may seem delectable, many shoppers have expressed disappointment online. “I thought these were good, but they still don’t compare to the bottom of a Drumstick,” one person posted on Reddit. Below, commenters chimed in to agree.
“I found these a bit disappointing,” wrote one TJ’s shopper. “Dry flavorless cone, chocolate didn’t have much flavor either.. Even my kids were meh about it.”
“These were so hyped up on this subreddit, but I was disappointed,” someone else echoed. “They were dry and bland (particularly the waffle part). They taste good with ice cream, but I might as well buy the actual cones.”
Some people had problems with the chocolate, while others took issue with the cone itself. “The chocolate isn’t right!” one comment protested. “It isn’t that delicious melty type, it is just regular chocolate.
Another wrote: “I feel like the cone part could taste more like waffle cone. It feels a little graham cracker like to me.”
Regardless of the issue at hand, a lot of people agree on one thing: They won’t be buying this snack again.
However, there are plenty of people jumping to defend the treat, claiming that they quickly went through the whole box. To each their own! Will you pick it up on your next Trader Joe’s trip to try it for yourself? Let us know in the comments! And don’t forget to stock up on these beloved items while you’re at it.
