Trader Joe's customers lament discontinued Turkey-less Stuffed Roast
If you're a vegetarian Trader Joe's shopper, you probably already know that the store is stocked with all sorts of meatless goodies. One such product that people frequently look forward to—or rather, used to look forward to—is the Turkey-less Roast. This was a perfect option for Thanksgiving dinner. It featured vegan, plant-based protein stuffed with wild rice, cranberries, celery, and onions. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it. But unfortunately, none of us will be able to enjoy it this year, as one user on the Trader Joe's subreddit recently discovered. It's joined the list of discontinued items.
"Learned yesterday at TJ that they have discontinued the Turkey-less roast," they sadly announced.
It's a sad fact, indeed, for vegans and vegetarians everywhere. "Had I known this was gonna be discontinued this year I would have bought 10 last year," one person wrote in the comments. "Was my perfect Thanksgiving meal because I spent last thanksgiving alone, so it's definitely one of my comfort meals."
"I was really bummed about this one," someone else said. "It's a freezer staple in my house."
Alternatives to Trader Joe's Turkey-less Roast
Luckily, as the original poster asked for "back up ideas for a vegan turkey roast," the comments delivered on recommendations for alternatives.
"Gardein is delish- very very similar to the TJ’s one," someone offered. "Field roast and tofurkey both have a vegan roast as others here have mentioned, but they are very different from the TJs one."
"Quorn sells the most impressive vegan turkey. Tastes like the real thing," someone else suggested.
And if you want to get crafty, you could even try making your own alternative from scratch, as one commenter noted: "I had been thinking about trying my hand at a lentil and root veggie Wellington, so I guess this is the push to go ahead and try it."
As far as why this item was discontinued in the first place, it's hard to say. However, one person gave a possible explanation, along with a sliver of hope: "My store said this morning that it was a supplier issue. They will have roasts in 2024." Let's pray!
Meanwhile, you can continue to stock up on these holiday items. Happy shopping!
