Some Canadians celebrating Thanksgiving last Monday may have experienced a rude awakening. Although turkey is typically the go-to dish on this family-centered holiday (along with all those side dishes we can’t resist, despite the health risks), Sunrise Poultry Processers Ltd. recently issued a recall on Sunrise Farms brand Young Turkey with giblets. Find the details below.
Sunrise Farms turkey recalled for spoilage
Canadian poultry processers, Sunrise Farms, announced that some of their Young Turkey with Giblets old in grocery stores located in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan may be contaminated with spoilage microorganisms.
Recalled products include turkeys ranging in size. Although there is no UPC number on the product label, consumers may identify recalled turkeys with a Best Before date of October 11, 2023.
Anyone in possession of potentially affected products should not consume the turkey. Instead, they are encouraged to wrap the food up in plastic wrap and discard of it in a trashcan. If you'd like a full refund, you may also take it to the point of purchase. Make sure to wash your hands with soap and water after touching the recalled turkey.
Sunrise Poultry did not share whether or not any illnesses have stemmed from these products yet. Luckily, although spoilage microorganisms can be dangerous and result in sickness, they are not as detrimental as pathogens like Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli. Several food products have recently been recalled due to potential listeria contamination, including Life Raft treats.
Staying up to date on recalls is an important part of ensuring the safety of you and your family. If you find out that a product you have has been recalled, it's always best to stay on the safe side and discard of it (or return it for a refund).
