Former President Donald Trump has recently become the subject of numerous jokes on X (formerly known as Twitter) after mistakenly claiming that an audience at his presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris “went crazy.”

During an appearance on Fox News’ Gutfeld!, Trump, 78, reminisced about the September 10th debate hosted by ABC News and moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis.

Like his previous debate with President Joe Biden in June, this event also took place without an audience. Consequently, many social media users are calling Trump a ” chronic liar” and suggesting he may have “dementia.”

Donald Trump Sparks 'Dementia' Rumors On Social Media After Claiming His Nonexistent Debate Audience 'Went Crazy'

Soon after his Gutfeld! appearance, X users headed to the platform to share their thoughts. "The moron known as Donald Trump told Gutfeld that during his debate with Harris, the audience was going wild for him. There WAS NO AUDIENCE. Extreme lying or extreme dementia? It's all lies and bullsh-t with him. Not having it any more," one wrote. Another called him "Delusional and unsettling," adding: "Old Man Dementia Trump forgets there was no debate audience, claims crowd 'went crazy.'"

An additional user commented: "There was no audience at the debates. Wait does Trump not know what? He was there. Dementia!!" Someone else chimed in: "Wow. Time for a cognitive test, Dementia Donald." One other wrote: "Donald #Trump losing it obviously on Fox News where he says ‘and the crowd went wild’ about the debate but THERE WAS NO AUDIENCE at the debate with #KamalaHarris."

Shortly following the historic debate, many conservatives and certain centrist commentators took issue with the moderators for challenging some of Trump’s blatantly false assertions, such as his baseless claim that Haitian migrants are stealing and consuming people's pets in Ohio.

Numerous critics were especially frustrated that the moderators failed to address Harris's statements. A CNN fact-check of the debate found that Trump made at least 33 false claims compared to Harris's single one.

While appearing on Greg Gutfeld's show, Trump said: "And they didn’t correct her once, and they corrected me, everything I said, practically. I think nine times or 11 times. And the audience was absolutely– they went crazy."
