Taylor Swift’s dance moves have become the latest topic of internet chatter, even among her most loyal Swifties. A video shared by @harryalex98 on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok went viral, showing the Grammy winner, 34, shaking her hips “awkwardly” as she grooved on stage at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh earlier this month.

Clad in a fringed gold mini dress and white boots, the Tortured Poets Department songwriter swayed to her 2008 hit “You Belong With Me.” Despite her efforts to channel a carefree vibe, her movements—complete with some playful tongue action—came off as “stiff” and “cringe” to some viewers. Swift seemed unfazed, treating the moment with a sense of fun.

Taylor Swift’s Playful Dance Moves Break The Internet

While it seemed that Swift aimed to make the fringe on her dress dance wildly, the result struck some as amateurish and “embarrassing.” Critics even suggested she take “dance lessons,” though many fans rushed to defend her playful spirit and undeniable talent to captivate audiences throughout her three-hour-long Eras Tour shows.

In her Time Magazine interview for the 2023 ‘Person of the Year’ issue, the “Down Bad” artist candidly discussed her challenges with choreography, admitting that her real strengths lie in singing and songwriting.

"Learning choreography is not my strong suit," the pop star revealed. She added: "I had three months of dance training, because I wanted to get it in my bones. I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought."

Last month, Swift's personal trainer claimed that her workout routine is so strenuous (and designed to cater to the rigorous requirements of her tour) that it would be challenging for most people to undertake.

Inside Taylor Swift's Intense Fitness Routine For The Eras Tour

In a recent interview with Vogue, Swift's longtime trainer Kirk Myers dished that her usual exercises are “really hard,” and that “some people would probably throw up or have to lay down on the floor if they trained like her.”

Myers, who has been working with Swift since her 1989 era in 2014, also gushed that the "Anti-Hero" singer's work ethic "is just incredible." He added: "I’m ready to be known as ‘Taylor Swift’s trainer.’ I don't think there’s a cooler title out there." The athletic expert responsible for Swift's physical preparation shared how she achieved (and maintains) her excellent shape.

Back in March of 2023, Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour began. The "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" artist headlines each night, performing for over three hours. Her electrifying setlist is composed of 44 songs and she not only sings, but also plays piano and guitar and pulls off captivating choreography as well. Her popular tour is set to continue until December 8, 2024.

Myers told the publication that Swift's workout routine for the tour was "tailored" and developed to be similar to that of a professional athlete. There was an "off-season," when she wasn't on tour, he added, and  an "in-season" when she was. During the off-season, the "So Long, London" artist can be found in the gym up to six days a week, devoting two hours each day to fitness.

While targeting her core is their main focus during these sessions, Myers noted that Swift also dedicates time to cardio outside of the gym. Swift has previously revealed that her workout regimen consisted of running on a treadmill while simultaneously belting out her concert setlist.

While on tour, Myers said that the sculpted and toned musician makes sure to maintain her training by regularly attending the gym. "Taylor trained during the entire tour," Myers went on. "We would average two times a week. In-season training was more about maintenance, and so it was more like stability, mobility, biomechanics."

Myers continued: "If you’ve seen the show, you know how intense it is physically. Imagine doing that three, four days in a row and then you finally have a few off days and you’re still showing up to [the] gym. That’s Taylor." Amid all of this, Swift was still able to write and record her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, released on April 19th.

The trainer also sweetly said: "Taylor is the most resilient person I have ever met. It’s super-inspiring to see her consistently overcome obstacles and become better and stronger in the end. This also translates into her training and throughout her workouts."

He added: "I give her a difficult exercise or challenging workout, not only is she able to complete and push through it — but she also perseveres, moving forward into the next exercise. This ultimately makes her stronger, better, and faster."
