Chrissy Teigen Suggests Social Media Should Shut Down After 6pm
TikTok was banned (briefly) over the weekend, after the Chinese owner refused to sell to an American buyer. The American government banned the app, so that when users tried to open the app, a pop up came up, announcing the app has been banned in America. However, the ban was lifted less than 24 hours later, prompting a lot of discussion from users and celebrities alike.
Chrissy Teigen was one of the celebrities who had something to say on the topic, and took to her Instagram stories to share her opinions. "I personally think that one day there will be the most incredible rule," she said, filming herself from bed. "I think the government, or some kind of ethics committee—somebody—should shut off social media between 6pm and 6am. Leave it all up. Everyone gets to do anything they want, but only between 6am and 6pm. Shut it off. Done."
Fans Slam Chrissy Teigen on Twitter
Many fans, especially ones that work until 6pm, thought this was incredibly tone deaf and out of touch for the model to suggest. "Wasn't she the one posting selfies of herself crying while evacuating during the LA fires?" one person asked on X, formerly Twitter. "Where are you going to be tone deaf after 6pm, Chrissy?"
"I had a similar idea," another person said. "We should just shut down Chrissy Teigen!"
"I'm sick and tired of this woman," another wrote.
"Makes sense coming from someone who doesn't have a real job," one user said. "I leave for work at 7am and don't get back until 6:30 so I guess no social media for me!"
