We always say: when your haircut works for you, you’ll know it. It will make you look and feel like the greatest version of yourself, and will work with your lifestyle, as well. You won’t have to push so hard for your hair to fall in place and your hair type and density will fall in line with it. When you find your best hairstyle, it simply no longer matters what’s trending and what isn’t. But if you don’t feel you’re there just yet, and could use a little help figuring out your next great haircut, hopefully one that is fresh and trending, it can help to also avoid haircuts that can be unflattering over a certain age and are on their way out of style.

We found five that hair experts aren’t feeling inspired by in 2025, which is to say, they’ve been temporarily replaced by similar versions that feel more fresh and chic. Here are five that are slowly making their way out of style — and, again, if one is your personal favorite, ignore these tips: you know what’s best for your hair.

1. Asymmetrical Bob

Say it isn’t so! We love a great asymmetrical bob that features sharp angles by the face and a shorter back. It’s chic and sophisticated. But it’s also being replaced this season by the hottest bob of the moment: the blunt bob. The blunt bob is longer all around and features dense, blunt ends that make thin or fine hair look thicker. This cut can be customized with or without fringe or longer, face-framing fringe.

2. Wolf Cut

The wolf cut is a super-shaggy, very layered look that has been all the rage for a few years. It is slowly being overtaken by the less shaggy, but still face-framing pixie cut. This is a mid-length cut with the majority of its layers in the front of the hair. When you put your hair up and leave the layers out, your hair can even take on a short hair look.

3. Very Short Pixie

The very short pixie is seeing a little more length on top these days. This longer pixie provides more customization options, including the ability to style the pixie so that it covers areas that appear thinner around the crown of your head.

4. Heavily Styled, Perfect Curls

Perfectly styled and coiffed curls look severe these days. This year favors looser textured styles like big waves, tousled curls, and beachy looks. Laidback, voluminous, and cool as a summer breeze are the inspirations for today’s textured hair looks.

5. Ironed Straight Hair With a Center Part

It’s hard to fault Demi Moore for any of her looks, including her signature long, straight hair with a center part. But, as far as trends go, super-long hair is in (if your hair type supports it or you’re willing to get hair extensions), but beauty lovers are favoring texture and volume over flat-ironed straight hair with no lift. We’re also seeing a return to the side-swept look, which is replacing the center part among the fashionable set.
