There are probably plenty of pre-installed iPhone apps you wouldn’t dream of ditching — apps you use every day and that make your life more convenient. And then there are the apps that came with your phone and you barely know they exist. But your phone knows they exist and their mere presence on your device takes up space without giving anything back in return (if you are not using them).

The more storage space apps are consuming, the more it can affect your phone by slowing it down and making it less efficient. Not every iPhone user will consider the same apps unnecessary, but these three tend to be mentioned as apps that aren’t always worth the space they can take up. Feel free to delete away if they don’t serve you.

1. Stocks

The only reason to keep the Stocks app is, of course, if you use it to track your activity in the stock market. By default, this app takes up between 50 and 100 MB of storage, depending on your device’s size and the iOS version you use. You can check exactly how much storage it’s using on your phone by heading to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > scrolling down to find Stocks. Delete this app to keep it from taking up any more space.

2. Apple News

Apple News can be a considerate source of curated news stories that appeal to you, or it can be an app that’s accumulating data without your knowledge and taking up storage space — this all depends on whether you use the app. Many people get their news from other sources, like social media, Substack, podcasts, or specific news websites. The Apple News app can take up between 200 and 300 MB of space, though the amount for you will depend on factors such as how long you’ve been using the data and how much data it has stored.

3. Find My Friends

Find My Friends is part of the Find My App. It allows you to track your friends on their phones, which can be helpful if you’re meeting up places or you want to have each other’s backs for protection. This app can take up between 50 and 100 MB of storage typically, and that number goes up depending on the number of friends you are tracking and the amount of cached data it has stored. This app is only as helpful as your usage of it. If you never need it, save yourself the storage space and get rid of it.
