Valerie Bertinelli has lost a super-impressive 40 lbs. and unsurprisingly isn’t afraid to show it off!
The 64-year-old One Day at a Time actress surprised fans with an Instagram bathroom mirror selfie on December 3rd, which saw her posing in just her underwear to show off the results of her weight loss transformation (which has been up and down over the years) in the best way possible. While most of her fans praised her for sharing the picture, a few of them weren’t so complimentary, which then caused her to defend her decision to do so in another post.
Valerie addressed her “acceptance” of her body in the candid Instagram caption to her initial bathroom selfie, and wrote: “At some point I will talk about the madness my body has been through this year.”
“But right now every lump bump wrinkle and saggy part of me just feels acceptance and simple appreciation to be standing in front of a mirror in a hotel bathroom in downtown Manhattan ready to color my roots late on a Monday night,” she continued.
The following day, the Indulge author shared a two-image carousel on Instagram – this time while wearing baggy ripped jeans and a simple black T-shirt – and defended her initial decision to share her underwear picture with her followers.
The Valerie’s Home Cooking star started off by thanking the fans who “identified” with the message in her underwear mirror selfie, and said: “First of all, to those of you who felt a connection to my prior post and identified with what I was talking about, (empowering ourselves to focus on our own self-acceptance and self-love), thank you and thank you for your kindness. I see you. We are in this together.”
The Hot in Cleveland star then went on to address those who judged her for posting the picture, and essentially confirmed that she didn’t care about the negative comments as she loved her body now more than ever! “To all of you that would sit in judgment of my body, the photo, and my reason for posting it, I hope you find a place in your heart to not judge yourself as harshly as you judge others,” she said.
Bertinelli added: “I have dealt with judgment my entire life starting from when I was a young girl. It has taken me a long time to realize that my judgment, with patient discernment, is the only judgment that counts.”
