Valerie Bertinelli has been in the spotlight since she was 15 years old, making her tenure as a celebrity over 50 years. Throughout these decades, she’s been incredibly open about her weight loss journey—the ups, the downs, and the toll it takes on your mental health worrying about weight all the time.

Since her most recent weight loss, a time period she identifies as 2022-2024, the 64-year-old Kids Baking Championship host stayed just as candid in interviews and on social media, a trait that her adoring fans continuously praise her for.

We love hearing everything she has to say about how she shed the pounds, so let’s revisit some of the things she has recently said about her super-impressive 50-lb weight loss…

Valerie Bertinelli's Weight Loss Over The Years

After gaining weight in 2022 during her tumultuous divorce from Tom Vitale, the Valerie's Home Cooking star made a point to prioritize not just her physical health, but her mental health, even more so.

In June of 2023, the One Day at A Time actress posted on Instagram to share where she was in her weight loss journey. "I started really concentrating on my emotional and mental health. And when I started doing that, I started caring about the nutrition that I put in my body more."

More recently, in March 2024 at Elton John's Oscars Party, Valerie showed off her slim figure in an off-white pantsuit (top right) and the next month, when she released her cookbook, Indulge, she spoke on the topic of weight loss again.

Valerie Bertinell Says She Doesn't 'Deny' Herself Anything – Including Pasta!

"I don't deny myself anything anymore," the Hot in Cleveland star told People while promoting her book.

"I think what do I want, as opposed to what am I going to eat because I need to be careful about calories. If I want pasta alle vongole, I'm going to make that. And I'm not going to feel one ounce of guilt about it."

"But I also don't crave things anymore that won't necessarily feed my body all the nutrition that it needs," she added. See? It's all about balance.

Valerie Bertinelli Says She Has Let Go Of Body Shame

The actress has been very open with her fans about learning to love and accept her body, as proven by an underwear mirror selfie she shared with them at the start of this month, as well as the candid and unapologetic caption that came after it.

In the People interview earlier this year, Bertinelli explained that she had let go of the body shame that she had been feeling for a large part of her life with the help of "more consistent therapy, more journaling, and meditation." Noted!
