Valerie Bertinelli and Mike Goodnough, appear to be ending their relationship after nearly a year together. According to an insider who spoke with People, the Food Network alum, 64, and writer, 54, are parting ways after ten months of dating.
As the tipster dished to the magazine this week: “They are no longer in a relationship.” The reason behind the breakup could’ve stemmed from the challenges of maintaining a long-distance relationship.
Bertinelli, residing in Los Angeles, and Goodnough, based on the East Coast, have been living on opposite ends of the country since January.

The Drew Barrymore Show lifestyle expert previously opened up to People about her "three week rule" with Goodnough. This, as Bertinelli told People in July, "had been challenging" for the two to maintain. As Bertinelli told the outlet back in April: "We never go longer than that without seeing each other."
The mom of one went on: "After all, it’s about finding the joy in life and sharing it." The Indulge cookbook author shared with the publication that her initial friendship with Goodnough sparked a few years back when he left a comment on one of her Instagram posts.
Over time, this simple online interaction blossomed into a genuine connection. "I thought he was interesting," she recalled. The One Day at a Time actress continued: "It was strictly platonic, but there was something about him that I connected with that felt familiar. A comfort level. He felt like a kindred spirit."
Their initial conversation took place over the phone in January, and from that moment on, their relationship began to intensify. "His voice had the most beautiful timbre. I was like ‘Oh, I can’t talk to this man right now because that’s really sexy.’ We both had strong feelings, trying not to admit them," Bertinelli said.

The couple subtly made their relationship public on April 3rd, when Bertinelli attended a taping of The Drew Barrymore Show accompanied by her new partner.
Not long after, Goodnough broke his silence and shared details about their budding romance for the first time on his Hoarse Whisperings Substack.

At the time, Goodnough wrote: "I am Valerie Bertinelli’s boyfriend… and that may well be among the most surreal sentences I’ve ever pecked out. But it’s true… and nothing about our actual relationship seems surreal. It just seems… good… lucky… a gift."
He also later told People: "Valerie and I are the only two people with insight into our relationship. Neither of us pays much attention to chatter among people outside of it."

Bertinelli's marital history includes a union with financial planner Tom Vitale from 2011 to 2022.
Prior to that, she was famously wed to Eddie Van Halen, the iconic frontman of Van Halen, from 1981 until their separation in 2007. She is also the mother of Wolfgang Van Halen, a 33-year-old musician.

In a June 2024 Instagram post shared with her 1.6 million followers, Bertinelli expressed that Goodnough played a significant role in her path to healing. "Learning to trust again after having that trust destroyed is not an easy thing. Those demons want to protect you from being vulnerable and emotionally exposed ever again," she wrote.
The Hot in Cleveland star went on: "This man is worth fighting the rest of my demons for. He is the most thoughtful, kind, gentle, intelligent, funny, and grateful man I’ve ever met."
