Valerie Bertinelli Talks About Quitting Drinking: 'I Feel Good When I Wake Up In The Morning'
The One Day at a Time actress spoke about the benefits of sobriety with People, saying: "Even with life struggles and how life can be challenging, I find that it is easier to get myself clearer faster, about what I need to do and taking care of my life." She added: "I feel good when I wake up in the morning. I'm not groggy. I'm not tired. I'm not: 'What did I do last night?'"
Bertinelli also told the pub that she didn't feel she was ever addicted to alcohol, and therefore considers herself "one of the lucky ones," and then recalled how doing Dry January back in 2023 was a good first step for her.
"I don't think I ever really had a problem [with alcohol] and that's why it was a bit, I don't want to say easy, but it was an easier path for me to start with dry January," Bertinelli recalled. "And then go, 'Well, I'm halfway through February, now I might as well just keep going.' And now for me, I kind of make a game of it."
Valerie Bertinelli And Her New Boyfriend Quit Drinking At The Same Time
Interestingly, the Indulge author and her new beau Mike Goodnough, who she went public with back in April, both started their sobriety journey at the same time if we are to believe one of his Instagram comments. Commenting on one of Bertinelli's Instagram posts, Goodnough wrote: "Funny how we both just randomly decided to stop drinking only weeks before we met each other."
Bertinelli and Goodnough seem to be having a great time together – and the Valerie's Home Cooking star explained to People that she wants the next two decades of her life to be the best ones yet! "I say all the time, 'If I'm lucky, I have 20 more years left,' and I want them to be the best years of my life," she said, while suggesting that she intends to continue her alcohol-free life for the foreseeable future.
"And I don't want to be doing what I've been doing the last 64 years," she concluded, adding: "I want a better, cleaner, cooler, more exciting way to knock out the last 20."
