It can become more difficult to lose stubborn belly fat as we age, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Staying on top of your nutritional needs, which includes making sure you’re getting a wide variety of vitamins and minerals, can help.

While you’re making changes to your diet that include eliminating sugar and processed foods and eating more whole foods with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and protein, be sure to step up your supplement game when necessary to fill in any gaps.

This is the one vitamin you should start taking before breakfast to shrink your waistline over 40.

When you take your vitamins throughout the day matters as much as which vitamins you take.

The start of the day is a popular time to take supplements before life kicks in and you forget. But there’s one fat-burning, energy-boosting vitamin that’s especially important to take before breakfast for optimum benefits.

B Vitamins

There are eight B-complex vitamins and all play important roles in your body’s health.

B1, or thiamine, converts nutrients into energy and is crucial in maintaining a healthy metabolism. B2, B3, B5, and B7 (biotin) also converts food into energy or are essential for carb and fat metabolism.

And B12, which is only found in animal sources like meat, cheese, and eggs, is crucial for red blood cell develop and energy, but is also more difficult to obtain, especially if you follow a vegan or vegetarian diet.

According to Neil Levin, a clinical nutritionist at NOW Foods, your multivitamin (which can contain B-complex) or B vitamins should be taken in the morning. “Multivitamins tend to do best when taken earlier in the day, as the B vitamins in them might stimulate metabolism and brain function too much for a relaxing evening or before bed,” Levin told the Washington Post.

B vitamins are incredibly important for your health and metabolism. But remember: no one supplement or vitamin can be a replacement for a diet filled with fresh, whole foods, as well as plenty of exercise and sleep.
