Time to start weighing your meat! It isn’t just your fast food orders that are undergoing “shrinkflation.”
In a viral TikTok video, a Walmart shopper exposed an alarming issue with the weight and pricing of meat, sparking widespread concern about potential overcharging practices. The video, posted on the @viralbanger account, shows the shopper confronting a store manager about discrepancies between the labeled weight and the actual weight of packaged meat. Find all the details below.
The TikTok video begins with the shopper deciding to confront the store manager after discovering the weight discrepancy for the second time. “I’m gonna go down and talk to the manager. Let’s see what he has to say about it. This is the second time it’s happened to me,” he states.
Handing the manager two packages of meat, the shopper explains the issue: “Feel how heavy this is. How come this is supposed to be a lot heavier because it’s got more weight on it than this one?” The shopper then explains that the package labeled as weighing 6.17 pounds actually only weighs around 4.3 pounds when placed on a scale. “This isn’t 6 pounds man, it’s not even 4 and a half pounds. You guys are charging people for 6.17 pounds,” the shopper emphasizes.
The shopper continues to express frustration over being overcharged, stating, “I’m glad I caught it this time because last time I took it home and I was out of money on that.” He highlights the broader issue, suggesting that many customers might not realize they are being overcharged. “Something needs to be done about this, cause how many other people don’t realize this. I’m not saying you, but the company in general was ripping off,” the shopper asserts.
