Since the novel coronavirus outbreak, Walmart has seen growth in its e-commerce business with more people wanting to shop online versus stepping inside a store.

The big box store launched the program earlier this month to include perks such as same-day shipping and cashier-less checkout on items from groceries to toys, electronic, household items and more (it was previously called Delivery Unlimited and was focused just on groceries).

The program is aimed at growing the chain’s online sales even further, and to help shoppers get digital orders faster. We like that!

All Delivery Unlimited customers will be switched over to Plus memberships when the program is anticipated to launch on September 15.

"We've designed this program as the ultimate life hack," chief customer officer Janey Whiteside revealed on a press call.

Walmart has become the second biggest online seller in the US after Amazon. The company revealed that it's e-commerce sales nearly doubled last quarter--which is huge!--with an emphasis on curbside pickup transactions.

So, how do the two programs compare? Walmart's is cheaper but has fewer perks. Amazon's has been around longer (for 15 years, if you can believe it!) and has *many* loyal members. Raise your hand if you're one of them!

Not only does the Amazon membership entitle you to free shipping, but they've also got Prime Video, Amazon Fresh grocery deliveries and no delivery minimum for most items.

But Walmart maintains that they're not trying to compete--it's all about making their customers' experience better. "We're not launching Walmart Plus with the intent to compete with anything else," Whiteside said. "We're launching it to meet the needs of our customers." Well, okay then!
