Walmart has discreetly altered its well-known coupon policy, limiting the types and quantities of coupons that dedicated shoppers can redeem, as B105 reports.

The outlet wrote that Minnesota Walmart stores have introduced restrictions on similar coupons and will no longer manually approve any that the system declines.

Additionally, The Street notes that the major retailer is implementing changes to its self-checkout system to reduce theft. The updated process employs advanced technology that identifies products without needing to scan the barcode, utilizing hidden codes embedded in the packaging.

Inside Walmart’s New Change To Its Well-Known Coupon Policy

This innovation not only enhances security but also speeds up the self-checkout experience by recognizing multiple items simultaneously. Walmart’s latest store innovation could be a win for paying customers but a nightmare for shoplifters.

In a TikTok video that has garnered over 200,000 views, a shopper demonstrated how she scanned Great Value products at a Walmart self-checkout without needing a barcode.

As the user (@sushiissogoodomg) wrote in the post: "Omg guys you can literally just scan the item anywhere and it’ll go through."

The breakthrough follows Walmart's $3 million annual collaboration with Digimarc, the firm responsible for developing the innovative barcodes.

In 2022, Walmart broadened its collaboration with the technology firm to "help further optimize store operations," according to the company.

As outlined on Digimarc’s website, their technology integrates codes into product packaging that are “invisible to the human eye,” simplifying detection at self-checkout machines.

Moreover, B105 observes that Walmart has begun a nationwide modernization of their stores, which includes upgrading floors and bathrooms, as well as making various minor cosmetic improvements.
