While many of Mick Jagger and Harry Styles‘ fans might see a resemblance or similarity between the two, The Rolling Stones legend, 78, doesn’t seem to think the One Direction alum “moves like Jagger!”
Ever since Styles’ rise to fame over the past decade, fans have compared the “As It Was” singer, 28, to Jagger— from his dance moves to his singing voice to his appearance. Even if Styles’ luscious brown locks, high cheekbones and blue eyes often remind us of a young Jagger, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer stressed in a new interview that he doesn’t really see this. “I mean, I used to wear a lot more eye makeup than him,” Jagger said, “come on, I was much more androgynous.”

While sitting down with The Sunday Times last week, the classic rock legend stressed that he does like Styles and has an “easy relationship” with him, but doesn’t think they have many commonalities music-wise or artistically. The “Sympathy For The Devil” singer continued, “He doesn’t have a voice like mine or move on stage like me; he just has a superficial resemblance to my younger self, which is fine — he can’t help that.”

Styles is a known fan of Jagger, and shown this several times throughout his career— from impersonating the rockstar on an episode of Saturday Night Live, to wearing ensembles inspired by him whether on-stage or in music videos. He has yet to comment on Jagger’s recent interview, but has expressed his admiration for the “Gimme Shelter” icon several times.

With his new record, Harry’s House currently garnering millions of Spotify streams, Styles is currently embarking on his Love On Tour this year. The “Cinema” songwriter is set to perform a 10-night concert series at New York City’s Madison Square Garden this summer and continues to receive rave reviews for his new music.

Later on in the interview, Jagger discussed other topics, and didn’t seem to have bad blood with Styles (although fans may have found his initial comments unexpected). Jagger then spoke about his grief following the death of his bandmate and iconic drummer, Charlie Watts, (who passed away in August of 2021 at the age of 80). “I don’t really expect him to be there any more if I turn round during a show,” Jagger said. “But I do think about him. Not only during rehearsals or onstage, but in other ways, too … I miss him as a player and as a friend.”
