Wendy Williams Diagnosed With Aphasia & Frontotemporal Dementia
On Feb. 22nd, Wendy's team shared an update with her fans, as her health battle has been ongoing for a number of years now. She took a leave from her show, Wendy, in 2021, and in 2022, it was announced that Sherri Shepherd would be taking over her show. In 2023, Wendy was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, and has since dealt with "significant hurdles" as a result.
Aphasia makes communicating very difficult—and not just verbally. It can take away your ability to speak, write, and understand language. Frontotemporal dementia causes speech issues, emotional problems, and even changes in personality as the frontal lobes of the brain begin to atrophy. Bruce Willis has been living with these diseases for just a few years now.
Wendy's team has assured the public that she is well-taken care of and has lots of support. "Wendy is still able to do many things for herself," the statement reads. "Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed. She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way."
