Fast food expert Alex Lenhoff warns, “You may not expect it, but adding mayonnaise, ranch sauce or smoky honey mustard will add more calories to your burger than adding bacon. These sauces also add a significant amount of fat to your meal. In fact, if you were to order a Jr. Hamburger, adding mayonnaise would increase the fat content by 55%.”
While mayonnaise is certainly delicious, you can add more flavor to your burger by asking for extra pickles, adding veggies, or sticking simply to ketchup and mustard. Lenhoff continues, “When you look at the ingredients for these sauces, it’s no surprise that they are so caloric and full of fat. The first ingredient in all of them is oil. If pouring 2 ounces of oil on top of an already greasy burger sounds gross, you probably don’t want to order any of these sauces.”
Wendy’s will never be your go-to restaurant for healthy foods, but if you do decide to dine there, try to avoid creamy sauces so as not to double down on unnecessary calories and fat. However, at the end of the day, one meal isn’t going to undo your healthy lifestyle!
