Wendy’s Just Added The Most Insane Item To Its Menu–It’s Unreal!

We STILL can’t get over news that Wendy’s is testing a new plant-based burger!
Customers seeking a non-beef or chicken alternative when dining at the chain *rejoiced* as the fast food company announced that it would be rolling out a new “Spicy Black Bean Burger” in three U.S. cities starting on June 28th. The locations where the new sandwich have been testing are Jacksonville, Florida, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Columbus, Ohio.
The plant-based patty is made with black beans, as well as spices, then layered with tomatoes, onion slices, romaine lettuce, chipotle jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and a spicy chipotle sauce.
Unfortunately for vegans, the company does not claim that the burger is vegan, due to potential cross-contamination in the kitchen. Additionally, they use a dairy-based cheese, and VegNews confirmed that the burger contains animal-derived ingredients. Yikes!
Wendy’s claims that they are still pioneering the plant-based fast food sandwich space, though. In a statement, the company took a dig at competitor McDonald’s, stating that “certain plant-based creations have spawned a bland reputation for the category–looking at you McImpossible–but luckily, Wendy’s has spice in her DNA.” Oh, snap! Just when you thought the chicken sandwich wars were bad, the plant-based burger wars said, “Hold my beer.”
The bold new burger will set customers back $5.79 and will be on menus for only a limited time.
