Whoopi Goldberg Blasts Chuck Schumer For Voting To Avert Government Shutdown On ‘The View’: ‘Explain Yourself!’

New York Senator Chuck Schumer recently joined nine other Democrats to support a Republican-led spending bill that nearly caused a government shutdown. Schumer’s change of hard has led to some harsh criticism from New York residents, and during an interivew on The View, Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t afraid to call him out. Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Chuck Schumer
During his guest appearance on The View, Schumer was put on blast by Goldberg and the other co-hosts. "Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's sudden change of heart about the Republican spending bill helped avoid a government shutdown, but opened him up to some harsh criticism and questions about his leadership from his own party," Goldberg said. "So, I'm just going to throw it out there: Why? What were you thinking? And, why?"
Schumer then went on to admit that he "knew it was a difficult choice" and that he'd "get a lot of criticism for it," yet still felt like he "had to do it." He explained that the government shutting down was a much worse situation, calling it "devastation like we've never seen."
'Worse Than Now?'
Goldberg wasn't done grilling the 74-year-old. "Worse than we're seeing now?" she followed up with. But Schumer doubled down.
"Much," he said, "That's why I did it. I wasn't going to take this flak just for having a lot of fun. The bottom line is, the government shutdown works like this. All government spending is stopped. All. And then the executive branch, Trump, Musk...they could cut off anything they want simply by saying it's not essential." For emphasis, he added that the different things Trump and Elon Musk could claim as non-essential could devastate a community, like mass transit and Medicaid.
