Whoopi Goldberg is radiating with joy over her trimmer physique. During a recent episode of The View, the television personality, 69, confidently showcased her updated appearance when chatting with guest fashion designer Christian Siriano. Goldberg previously revealed to fans earlier this year that she achieved her weight loss targets with the help of the medication Mounjaro.
In last week’s View episode, Sara Haines, Goldberg’s colleague, disclosed that every co-host was dressed in designs by Siriano, 39. Goldberg then stood up to showcase her new look, asking: “You haven’t seen me in my new body, have you?” The fashion designer then said the Sister Act actress looked “incredible” and praised her black blazer paired with an elegant white shirt.
Whoopi Goldberg Shows Off Her ‘New Body’ On ‘The View’ After Losing 150+ Lbs After Taking Mounjaro
Earlier this year, the EGOT winner discussed her choice to begin taking Mounjaro, prompted by her weight approaching 300 pounds during the filming of Till in 2021.
The Color Purple alum told her View co-hosts back in March: “My weight has come and gone and up and down, but it’s never been an issue for me because I don’t listen to what other people say about me.”
Goldberg shared: “I will tell you, I weighed almost 300 pounds when I made Till.” Not long after Goldberg bounced back from a frightening health scare, she started filming Till. Initially mistaking her illness for a simple cold, she soon found herself in the hospital with pneumonia in both lungs.
Additionally, she was diagnosed with sepsis, a dangerous condition where the body's response to infection goes awry, leading to organ malfunction, according to The Mayo Clinic. To combat these issues, the Ghost star was given steroids and various medications, which unfortunately came with some negative side effects.
"I had taken all those steroids, I was on all this stuff," Goldberg recalled. She mentioned that she hadn't noticed her weight gain until one day when she caught her reflection in the mirror.
"I just always felt like me. And then I saw me and I thought, 'Oh! That’s a lot of me!'" the comedian added.
Goldberg then revealed that she used a medication to lose weight. "One of the things that’s helped me dropped the weight was the Mounjaro. That’s what I used," she explained.
Mounjaro is a drug developed to manage blood sugar in individuals with type 2 diabetes, as Women's Health reports. It has also found off-label use in aiding weight loss.
The key component, tirzepatide, has now received FDA approval for weight loss and is marketed under the name Zepbound.
