Wicked premiered Friday night in the United States, and the press around the film has been astronomical, with multiple red carpet events, interviews, and behind the scenes looks at what went into filming the 2 hour and 4o minute movie. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star as Glinda and Elphaba in the film, and even though both have experience on Broadway, many fans are coming for the actresses, especially Ariana Grande, accusing them of not having the voice for Broadway singing. Keep reading for more information.

Ariana Grande Stars In ‘Wicked’

Ariana Grande made her Broadway debut in 2008 in the Jason Robert Brown musical, and Cynthia Erivo made hers in 2015 with The Color Purple. Ariana is also a lifelong fan of Wicked, making her role in the movie adaptation a true dream come true… literally.

In 2011, the pop star posted on Twitter, writing, “Loved seeing Wicked again…amazing production! Made me realize again how badly I want 2 play Glinda at some point in my life! #DreamRole.” And the Victorious actress finally achieved her dream, and while she has many fans cheering their support, she can’t seem to escape the haters, either.

Fans Slam Ariana Grande's Singing In Wicked

Despite Ariana's experience and incredible range, many Wicked fans still found something to hate. "Ppl are like 'why's this bad? She sounds great,'" one person wrote on X. "She does sound good but she doesn't sound like someone singing in a musical."

"Her voice is so annoying," another person posted.

"She sounds great, but it could've been so much better," wrote a third. "There's such a lack of emotion and it sounds like she's whispering. What a shame."

"I'm no vocal expert but the way she pronounces words as she's singing HAS BEEN annoying in my opinion," another wrote. However, the love Ariana and Cynthia have poured into this movie and are getting back from their fans far outshines these negative attitudes.
