Former president Donald Trump told Fox News Monday that, if he were to be re-elected in 2024, his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner would not be appointed to roles in his presidential administration.

Ivanka and Jared were both senior advisers in the Trump White House from January 2017 to January 2021, but both have been noticeably absent from Donald’s 2024 presidential campaign. The former president said this is by design: “It’s too painful for the family,” Trump admitted to Fox News host Bret Baier. “My family has been through hell.

The news that neither Ivanka nor Jared would have a role in the possible Trump return to the White House follows Ivanka's announcement in November 2022 that she would not take part in her father's 2024 presidential campaign. "I love my father very much," said the former White House adviser in a statement.  "This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics."

The former First Daughter continued, "While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena. I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and I will always be proud of many of our administration’s accomplishments."

Donald confessed the rigors and requirements of the role were particularly difficult on Ivanka: "Nobody has been through what my family has been through," he claimed. "Ivanka had a really successful line of clothing, I mean, making a fortune. When I did this, she was really—she closed it up. She sort of felt she had to, but she closed it up," Trump said, referring to Ivanka's decision to shut down her namesake clothing brand in July 2018 due to being involved in the Trump White House.

It's well-known that participation in the Trump Administration was taxing on the Kushners' personal and social relationships—particularly after the January 6th riots, "People who have remained friends with Jared and Ivanka were looking for proof that they weren’t complicit but couldn’t find any," a former friend of the couple told Vanity Fair in 2021. Many reports claim that the couple has become ostracized from their previous friend group, all due to their association with Trump's controversial presidency.

Ivanka and Jared aren't the only Trump family members that will likely be omitted from any official roles in a possible second go-round of a Trump presidential administration if the former president is re-elected in 2024—Donald also specifically mentioned son Eric as having borne a remarkable amount of scrutiny for his participation in the first Trump White House. "My family’s been through hell. I mean, they have—Eric, my son, who’s a fine boy. You know him very well," Trump said to Baier. "He’s a fine young man, good student, good everything, comes in. We’re doing beautifully. Then I decide to run for president. I mean, I don’t think anybody in the world in history has ever had more subpoenas sent to him."

Indeed, both Donald Jr. and Eric have become entangled in Trump's indictment for his role in a 2016 hush money payout to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, with both signing checks that have become central to the criminal tax fraud trial. Don Jr., in particular, was also the subject of a civil lawsuit (along with his father, Rudy Giuliani, and Representative Mo Brooks) seeking damages for their alleged role in inciting the January 6th riots, and is a person of interest in the criminal investigation of the Capitol attack.

For their part, Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner moved to Florida following father Donald's 2020 presidential election loss, concentrating on their children—Arabella Rose, 13, Joseph Frederick, 9, and Theodore James, 7. Arabella recently celebrated her bat mitzvah earlier this summer, and though Ivanka credited grandfather Donald and step-grandmother Melania Trump with funding the festivities, the pair were barely shown in Ivanka's shared pictures from the event.
